ODIA Recognized at Oklahoma Small Business Development Center Advocacy Council Awards

Connecting People • Growing Business • Advancing Oklahoma’s Role in National Defense

The Oklahoma Defense Industry Association (ODIA), a member-driven association serving as a statewide connector for Oklahoma’s defense and national security community, was recognized during the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center’s (SBDC) 2025 Advocacy Council Awards Ceremony, held December 18 at Rose State College’s Tannenbaum Aerospace and Cybersecurity Center.

ODIA Executive Director Allyson Carson was honored with the Innovation Advocate Award, recognizing leadership in advancing innovation, collaboration, and economic growth within Oklahoma’s defense and national security ecosystem.

In addition, ODIA members were celebrated for their individual contributions, underscoring the strength and impact of the association’s statewide network. Tony Weedn, Founder of BaseConnect, received an award for his leadership in supporting defense innovation and entrepreneurship, and United Dynamics, an ODIA member organization, was recognized with an Industry Advocate Award.

“Innovation is the lifeblood of a thriving economy, and the Oklahoma Defense Industry Association exemplifies how partnerships and collaborations can make a difference for the client,” said Dr. Michele Hockersmith, Oklahoma SBDC State Director. “By championing forward-thinking solutions and fostering collaboration across sectors, they’ve helped position Oklahoma to make significant contributions in defense innovation. We are proud to work with them and honor Allyson Carson, ODIA’s Executive Director, with the Innovation Advocate Award for her continued commitment to driving progress by creating opportunities by connecting innovators to SBDC.”

Through its partnership with the Oklahoma SBDC, ODIA supports the entrepreneurs and small businesses it serves—helping defense-focused companies access resources, relationships, and pathways into government contracting.

As a statewide connector, the association brings together government, industry, academia, and small businesses engaged in defense, aerospace, and national security. Through advocacy, programming, and strategic partnerships, ODIA works to grow Oklahoma’s defense industrial base while supporting innovation at every level—from startups to established contractors.

“This recognition reflects the collective impact of our members,” said Allyson Carson, Executive Director of ODIA. “ODIA exists to elevate innovators, connect businesses to opportunity, and strengthen Oklahoma’s defense economy. Seeing our members recognized alongside the association reinforces the value of collaboration and the depth of talent across our network.”

The Oklahoma SBDC Advocacy Council Awards honor businesses, partners, and advocates who contribute to entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development throughout the state.
